Dancing with Darkness is a raw look at the "rave" and techno-party scene. It uses an in-your-face approach, with young people as the primary spokespeople. The documentary uses music, lyrics, club settings, and a contemporary visual look to put the messages in a form young people will hopefully want to watch and listen to. The DJs who spin the records are demythologized.
Dancing with Darkness was designed to jar people’s perceptions of party drugs and the rave scene, and generate dialogue on party drug abuse.
The documentary led the crew to three Dance/Party Clubs in Philadelphia: Envy, Chrome, and The Lair. The crew also traveled to New York City to interview internationally renowned DJ, Oliver Chesler.
